Today was a very interesting day. Not as in a lot of things happened, but a lot of things to write about. Let me explain... I talked to Jen today, once while she was working, and later, she called me from home. We don't talk for long periods at a time, but when we do, we have so much to say. It's nice to have someone to talk to that I don't have to worry will accidentally 'spill the beans' to someone else, since she lives 400 miles away. She's also not involved with anything in my life, so she can give a very unbiased opinion. She wasn't in the best of moods today, though, so she was pretty short about things. I didn't mind at all. She's still very sweet to me, and a joy to talk to. I also had a long conversation with Mike this evening. We don't call each other much, for lack of things to talk about. We both lead pretty inactive lives! Everything seems to be going well for him, and a lot of things that weren't working out previously seem to be turning around. He is still hopeful of his ex-wife coming back to him, although I don't see that happening any time in the near future (or any future, for that matter!). Annie and I had a talk also, in which I gave her some advice that I think will prove beneficial to her. What really suprised me was the fact that she didn't argue with me, telling me that it just wasn't her, or that she couldn't do it. She honestly listened, and later thanked me for it. Again, I won't hold my breath, but it's nice to think that she's finally starting to learn how to admit that she doesn't always know what's best. I have high hopes for her happiness. My day ended as I watched a movie tonight on Starz Movie Network called 'The Mighty'. It's about two young boys, one of which is intelligent, but also handicapped and can only walk with crutches. The other is emmensely strong, but slightly stupid. They end up going to watch a fireworks display, and since the handicapped boy can't see over everyone, the other lifts him onto his shoulders to see. They start to walk around this way all the time, and find that it was almost like they were two halves of a whole person. The crippled boy dubs himself Freak, and the strong one the Mighty. They share all sorts of adventures, and in the end, Freak dies. The Mighty ends up writing a book about their adventures, and finds that Freaks intelligence was, in a sense, passed down to him. After the movie, I started to play back in my mind all the relationships in my life, and in those around me. It occurred to me that people tend to find others in their lives that have qualities that they lack, and that don't have qualities that they, themselves have. I think back on all the relationships I've had, both romantic and otherwise, and I realize all the things I've learned over the years. Not from books or movies, or even personal experience, but from the people around me. I've decided to take a small amount of time before going to sleep tonight to thank all the people in my life to myself. I will have to make an honest effort to begin thanking them all tomorrow. If any of them happen to read this, thank you. Even if we haven't seen each other in a long time, thank you. Without the people in my life, whether they loved me or hated me, helped me or hurt me, I would have never been able to become the kind of person I am. Thank you all,
so much.
